Well Done, Microsoft! Skype Update Will Hide Users’ IP Addresses

skypeAre you an active Skype user?

If so, you may want to know that Microsoft has just released an important security update that hides user IPs connected to the service with accessible clients.

An announcement has been released on Skype Blogs:

Starting with this update to Skype and moving forward, your IP address will be kept hidden from Skype users. This measure will help prevent individuals from obtaining a Skype ID and resolving to an IP address.

How can users obtain the update?

Quite easy – by downloading the latest versions of Skype on desktop and mobile devices which are available on Skype.com.

It’s also recommended to update Skype across all devices so that any future complications are avoided.

Why is the update important?

Skype IP resolvers can locate the user’s IP address by circumventing his Skype settings. During the last few months, many Skype IP resolvers have been launched, and Microsoft finally made the decision to update the Skype service and block all such resolvers.

Additionally, IP addresses of users connected to Skype will be also hidden by another security update.
