Grancrab 5.1
« on: January 25, 2019, 01:13:16 am »
I was infected by Grancrab 5.1 and the bitfender grancrab decryptor does not work. The extension of the  files is srpxwg and the txt name is SRPXWG-DECRYPT.txt.

Any solutions?

In case there is no solution, is it possible to backup the encrypted files until the day there is a decryptor tool?

Thank you

Hello, @sombraemp.

This the newest version of the ransomware.
Currently, there is no solution.
The Bitdefender decryptor decrypts only until version 5.0.3 successfully - there are at least 10 more versions released after that.
Not sure what the details are but there might never be a decryptor.

Save your most important files and start doing backups - once you have been a ransomware victim you may be targeted by the malware authors in the future.

Hopefully, in the future there will be a solution, but it is a tough ransomware.

Kind Regards,
Execute

Thank you for your quick reply. But if in the future there will be a solution. Is it possible to keep the damaged files in case there is a decryptor tool?

@Flinkgutt Currently, there is no solution.

@sombraemp, yes you can save your files to a USB or a disk drive and wait.

@saitamanaruti, all of you, Gandcrab victims will get notified both in the forum and blog.
The articles and posts will get updated, too. Let us hope that there will be a solution soon.

Every version of GandCrab from 5.0.4 onward is NOT decryptable.

Save your files to a USB or a disk drive (or even cloud storage) and wait for a possible decryption tool. Some ransomware variants might take years to decrypt or there is no chance for decryption. So, if you didn't have a backup of those files you cannot recover them at the time being. Try a data recovery software, but I doubt that will work. Renaming mp3 files back to their extension might work.

With Regards,
Execute

Unfortunately there is no solution - you will have to wait for a possible decryption tool to be released.
Try a data recovery tool. Another thing is to try and rename your files to their original names and extensions - one user recovered .mp3 files like that - maybe the ransomware has a weakness...
