FileRepMalware – How Did I Get It and What Does It Do?

FileRepMalware is a file detection with a low reputation score, meaning that legitimate file on your computer may have been flagged as malicious. The detection could be due to some indicators in the file that resemble those of a computer virus.

If FileRepMalware is a virus, however, it may pretend to be a legitimate .exe or other file that you could have downloaded and executed on your computer. One particular case of FileRepMalware was a downloaded .exe file, pretending to be a toolkit:

→ %Desktop%\microsoft_toolkit.exe

Such toolkits, cracks, patches, license activators and other programs often downloaded from unsuspecting users often end up to be FileRepMalware. This is not good, because those apps may also be trojanized, meaning that they may be displayed as a low reputation file.

Is FileRepMalware a Virus?

Note that executing them on your computer may be the start of a dangerous malware infection. Such malware is often spyware capable of the following actions:

  • Take screenshots.
  • Log the keystrokes you type.
  • Steal saved passwords directly from your web browser.
  • Obtain files from your computer.
  • Download and execute other viruses or programs without your knowledge and consent.
  • Delete files from your PC.
  • Update itself to stay hidden from conventional antivirus programs.

The detection of FileRepMalware should not be cause for panic, but it is best that you stay safe and get rid of the files. If FileRepMalware is assoicated with a program you are using, then your PC might be infected with a virus through this program, so it is strongly advisable to focus on removing it.

How to Delete FileRepMalware Completely

Since FileRepMalware may not be the only malicious file on your computer, you can follow the removal instructions in the steps below. The first two steps could help you to clean up your computer and desktop from unwanted programs and viruses manually. However, if the problem persists, then we recommend taking the appropriate action and running a scan on your computer with a reputable anti-malware program. Such software can save you a lot of time and fully secure your computer against viruses, like FileRepMalware. Plus, it adds an extra layer of protection against all types of intrusive programs.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Here is how it may appear if your file has been found:

file extension malicious

N.B. We recommend to wait for the green loading bar in the navigation box to fill up in case the PC is looking for the file and hasn't found it yet.

2.For Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

For Older Windows Operating Systems

In older Windows OS's the conventional approach should be the effective one:

Remove Virus Trojan

2: After the search window appears, choose More Advanced Options from the search assistant box. Another way is by clicking on All Files and Folders.

Remove Virus Trojan Step 11

3: After that type the name of the file you are looking for and click on the Search button. This might take some time after which results will appear. If you have found the malicious file, you may copy or open its location by right-clicking on it.
