remove-Ytbn-virus-ransomware-stop-sensorstechforum-com

The Ytbn virus has been classified by malware researchers as a ransomware cryptovirus. This is a very famous virus that is one of the hundreds of ransomware threats belonging to STOP/DJVU malware family. The main idea of this cryptovirus is to enter your computer and scan for and encrypt your important documents and other critical files. The outcome of this is you cannot open your files until you pay for a decryptor to the criminals who have created the virus.

Read this article if you want to learn more information on what the Ytbn virus does, how to remove it, what are your file recovery options and how to protect your computer in the future.

Ytbn Virus – More Information

Just like the Enfp, Ygkz and Ekvf variants of the STOP Ransomware family, the Ytbn virus may use the same methods of infection. This nasty threat may arrive on your computer by being downloaded from the web, where it may seem like a patch, crack, keygen, portable program, or anything that is software. But instead of getting what you are looking for a free download, you get the ransomware encrypting your files. Another very likely scenario is if you have received an e-mail that is stating something urgent and that you must open the attachment immediately. In this case, the attachments often pretend to be important documents, like flight tickers, order receipts, and other such critical files. When the document is downloaded and opened, the virus may find its way into your computer.

Once the Ytbn virus has already infected your PC, it may drop its files without your consent in some of the following directories in Windows:

  • %LocalLow%
  • %Temp%
  • %Roaming%
  • %Local%
  • %AppData%

Among these files, it may also leave its ransom note, called _readme.txt. This note contains the following ransom extortion message:

STOP ransomware virus ransom message

Once already having set up on your computer, the Ytbn begins to act. It may run administrative actions so that it could change several settings in Windows that will make the encryption inevitable. Among the virus activities performed by the Ytbn ransomware are the following:

  • Establish a connection with the cyber-criminals running it.
  • Obtaining read and write authorizations.
  • Creating Windows registry entries in the “Run” or “RunOnce” Registry sub-keys.
  • Run as administrator.
  • Analyzing If it has infected your computer system previously and if so deletes itself.

.ytbn Files

The Ytbn virus targets all of your important files but is clever enough not to encrypt files that belong to Windows. This is done so that you can still use your computer to pay the ransom to the crooks who have infected it.

The files that are encrypted often end up being videos, pictures, databases, documents, archives, USB drive files, backups, audio files, and many others. These files have the important data in them altered with the AES (advanced encryption standard) algorithm. This cipher makes the files no longer able to be opened and generates an asymmetrical decryption key.

What the crooks get is this decryption key and they want you to pay around a $1000 ransom fee in BitCoin to get a .ytbn file decryptor. Paying this ransom is not advisable, because you cannot trust these criminals. We recommend that you keep reading this article to see what are your options for removing this threat and trying to recover your files.

Remove Ytbn Virus and Try to Restore Files

Ytbn virus can be erased from your computer by following the removal instructions we have set up below. Be advised that if you want the best solution to remove it, experts often advise using advanced anti-malware software. Such a professional program will scan your PC and make sure all of the files, that belong to this malware are gone from it and it is protected in the future against any malware, too.

For the file recovery, you might just get lucky. The reason for that is the decryption keys of STOP Ransomware viruses, like Ytbn are two types – offline and online. If your particular version of the virus uses offline keys, then a decryption tool usually will be released by experts, like the experts at Emsisoft, for free download in about a week’s time. If your key is online, then you can try using the alternative tools for file recovery we have shown below. They are not a 100% solution to get your files back, but they have helped the readers of SensorsTechForum.com in the past with their files.

Step 2: Uninstall Ytbn Virus and related malware from Windows

Here is a method in few easy steps that should be able to uninstall most programs. No matter if you are using Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista or XP, those steps will get the job done. Dragging the program or its folder to the recycle bin can be a very bad decision. If you do that, bits and pieces of the program are left behind, and that can lead to unstable work of your PC, errors with the file type associations and other unpleasant activities. The proper way to get a program off your computer is to Uninstall it. To do that:

1. Hold the Windows Logo Button and "R" on your keyboard. A Pop-up window will appear.

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

You can access them by opening the Windows registry editor and deleting any values, created by Ytbn Virus there. This can happen by following the steps underneath:

Step 5: Try to Restore Files Encrypted by Ytbn Virus.

Method 1: Use STOP Decrypter by Emsisoft.

Not all variants of this ransomware can be decrypted for free, but we have added the decryptor used by researchers that is often updated with the variants which become eventually decrypted. You can try and decrypt your files using the instructions below, but if they do not work, then unfortunately your variant of the ransomware virus is not decryptable.

Follow the instructions below to use the Emsisoft decrypter and decrypt your files for free. You can download the Emsisoft decryption tool linked here and then follow the steps provided below:

1 Right-click on the decrypter and click on Run as Administrator as shown below:

stop ransomware decryptor step 1

2. Agree with the license terms:

stop ransomware decryptor step 2

3. Click on "Add Folder" and then add the folders where you want files decrypted as shown underneath:

stop ransomware decryptor step 3

4. Click on "Decrypt" and wait for your files to be decoded.

stop ransomware decryptor step 4

Note: Credit for the decryptor goes to Emsisoft researchers who have made the breakthrough with this virus.

Method 2: Use data recovery software

Ransomware infections and Ytbn Virus aim to encrypt your files using an encryption algorithm which may be very difficult to decrypt. This is why we have suggested a data recovery method that may help you go around direct decryption and try to restore your files. Bear in mind that this method may not be 100% effective but may also help you a little or a lot in different situations.

1. Download the recommended Data Recovery software by clicking on the link underneath:

Simply click on the link and on the website menus on the top, choose Data Recovery - Data Recovery Wizard for Windows or Mac (depending on your OS), and then download and run the tool.
