Coupon Samurai is yet another program that claims it will help users save money and time on their online shopping. It is supposed to deliver coupons whenever users browse the web, and they will not have to search for them themselves. While this does make Coupon Samurai seem like it is a great program to have, we urge users to avoid it. Coupon Samurai falls into the category of adware, which instantly makes it a potentially unwanted program. This means that it will get in the way of your normal browsing and it will potentially expose your system to a variety of virtual threats.

What Does Coupon Samurai Do?

It appears that Coupon Samurai is a clone of Savings Explorer, Sold Savings, SavingsAddon and a bunch of other applications. These programs have basically the same websites. And their privacy policy and terms of use pages are identical.

Installing the program on the system will result in it getting attached to your browser. It can work with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. The browser extension will start presenting banners, pop-unders, pop-ups, in-text and interstitial ads. These will appear no matter what websites you are browsing. These can easily slowly drive you insane. Apart from being really irritating, Coupon Samurai will also start monitoring your browsing activities so that it can present targeted ads. The information it gathers, however, can be shared with third parties.

How Did Coupon Samurai Get Installed on My PC?

Although all of the programs we have mentioned so far have their own websites, they cannot be downloaded from there. However, there are still ways in which they can enter systems. Usually, this is achieved through bundling. To say it otherwise, Coupon Samurai will be attached to various free applications that will then be available on third-party software vendors. Using bundling, potentially unwanted programs can be installed without users noticing. Here are some tips to avoid this from happening:

  • Do not download any sort of free applications from third-party websites.
  • Do not skim through the information presented by the installer. Instead, read it carefully.
  • Opt for Advanced/Custom installation as this will allow you to prevent any additional programs from being installed.

What Are the Dangers of Coupon Samurai?

Coupon Samurai itself is in no way malicious. However, this does not mean that it can lead to problems for your PC. The issue with adware programs is that they cannot be trusted. Cyber criminals can easily exploit them so that they promote their harmful websites. Landing on such a page can be devastating for your system’s security. It can become a target for malware attacks. If compromised, all of your information could be stolen by cyber criminals. This will include your personal and financial details. Due to these risks, we advise that you remove Coupon Samurai right away.
