News-Page.net Push Notifications “Virus” – How Did I Get It?

There are several ways that may have caused the News-Page.net redirect. The most effective of these methods often is via third-party installation setups. You should keep in mind that such installers typically come from bundled applications and freeware. Such installers can be packed with additional features, meant to conceal the installation of “extra” software. In other words, you could have installed a video converter or some other free program which is designed to alter your browser’s settings and cause redirects to News-Page.net or other similar sites. Because of this unwanted behavior, users often refer to such URLs as “redirect viruses”. Thus, News-Page.net can also be called >News-Page.net Redirect “Virus”.

As we already established, News-Page.net is a suspicious domain as it may redirect you to other suspicious sites that generate intrusive advertisements and display push notifications. News-Page.net imitates a newsfeed type of website but in fact it doesn’t provide such functionality.

According to the privacy policy featured on the website, News-Page.net is associated with Test and Keep Worldwide (https://www.testandkeepww.com/). The privacy policy states the following:

Stand a chance to win amazing prizes by joining Test and keep Worldwide. See our full Privacy Policy for more detail and for questions. […]

Your personal (contact) data can be provided to companies that belong to the same group as testandkeepww.com as well as to its sponsors and business partners. These parties may also send you information regarding group discounts or other offers. We retain your personal data for as long as you like us to provide you with information regarding new products and services.

As visible, News-Page.net and Test and Keep Worldwide is promising users prizes. The third parties behind these websites are probably only aiming at collecting personal and payment data from users who are tricked by their promises for prizes and products:

The prizes on our sites are being sponsored by our sponsor partners. In exchange for this, you can set your preferences and manage with what partners you want to share your personal details. We offer you the option to switch certain partners on/off as per 25th of May 2018. This can be done in the sponsor list. When you share your information with a sponsor partner we will transfer your: name, email to this partner. After given consent to this sponsor this sponsor has the right to contact you and they will become the Data Controller of your data. In that case the data will be governed by their Privacy Policy, so it is very important to read that carefully.

You should be careful if you come across the News-Page.net, or if you are redirected to it. In case you do, try not to click anywhere on the newly-opened pages as you might trigger a hidden malicious download. The outcomes of such a download can be quite threatening to the security and privacy of your personal computer.

Also note that there may be a lot more redirects stemming from that domain. Even if your browser is passing through a domain which loads just for a few seconds, that time is enough for the domain to plant a cookie, malware or acquire information about your computer.

In conclusion, the redirect is associated with unwanted advertisements, push notifications and other redirects which can cause various issues for you. To prevent these from happening, do not interact with anything coming from News-Page.net.
