In order to prevent this it is good to read the End-user license agreement (EULA) of the software installer carefully. It should provide information if additional software is packed in the installer. Another way is to check for Custom or Advanced install options and unmark the unwanted content.

NewTab.club – Technical Details

Having a plain and convenient design the NewTab.club redirect resembles the design of the most trusted browsers – Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The homepage contains shortcuts to websites of popular third-party services and a search engine powered by Google. At first you may find NewTab.club website to be a website with a good reputation but then it starts displaying numerous advertisements all over your browser and eventually causes browser crashes.

NewTab.club redirect appears on the browser without asking you for permission. It can change essential browser settings and set its domain https://newtab.club as a homepage, anew tab page and a preferred search engine. This makes the hijacker really annoying as it forces you to use its services each time you open the affected browser.

Even though that the search results are powered by Google, they can be customized to display targeted content and sponsored results based on the data obtained from your online activities. NewTab.club – Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy section of each website should state the type of information that is to be obtained and stored on servers. As well there should be explained how and when and the company owner of the website will use the gathered information.

The Privacy Policy section of NewTab.club is located at the bottom navigation bar of its homepage. From its Privacy Policy, we understand that the company owner of the hijacker can rent, sell, or share personal and non-personal information about you with affiliated companies or use it for advertising purposes. It and its partners may try to provide you various products or services based on the data they have about your online behavior.

The following information might be gathered by the hijacker:

  • Your email address
  • Cookie data
  • Your IP address
  • Your computer operating system details
  • Type of browser(s)
  • Your search queries
  • Visited Websites

The NewTab.club also uses numerous cookies to gather non-personal information. They can be used to identify your computer and gather details about your online habits. So, each time you access a selected website by using NewTab.club services, its cookies record all the webpages you visit. If you want to keep your online privacy secure it is good to avoid signing in your email and social media profiles after you access the login pages through NewTab.club. And if they offer you to become a member of their “club” our advice is to abstain from providing any of the asked information.

We have noticed that the hijacker also sets cookies related to the website of the massively multiplayer online military game War Thunder. The reason for this may be that the two companies work in partnership so they can quickly develop their projects. The cookies expire when your browsing session ends. However, while the session is active you may receive various kinds of advertisements that push the game site.
