Woso Redirect – Activity Report
Woso hijacker is the type of software that has been made to attack the most often used web browsers, like Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Edge, Opera and others. Other programs that exhibit the same or similar behavior include Nation Search, iStart Search Bar and SecuryBrowse.
The main strategy that this software uses to get attached to your computer and browser is to “hitchhike” the installers of another free program you may have added. Such free programs often end up being free converters for files, document readers, media players and other useful freeware. What happens is their setups are modified and uploaded on software download sites to include Woso redirect somewhere in the installation steps. And it is easy to miss it either, because the application is often hidden in the “Custom” install mode, rather than the “Express” installation mode.
Once on your computer, Woso redirect may attack your web browsers and hijack them in a way. This happens by this software assuming system permissions to modify your browsers as administrator. This may result in the Woso hijacker changing the new tab and default home pages. Each time you browse, you may see ads and the Woso web page instead of your original one.
The ads that may be shown by Woso hijacker could be of the following types:
- Browser re-directions.
- Banner ads.
- Push notification adverts.
- Ad-supported search results.
The Woso software is not considered malware and this is why it is not blocked by traditional antivirus software. However, the ads it may display to you could make it indirectly dangerous for it. The main reason for this is because these ads are shown so that the creators of Woso make profit from them. This is why they don’t care what ads they show you. The adverts displayed by Woso may conceal certain risks from you and some of them may be risky, such as:
- Virus websites.
- Phishing sites.
- Fake survey sites.
- Fake tech support pages.
- Fraudulent retailer stores.
