The “ViperDJ” is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), which claims to be exciting DJ software with multiple useful functions. It also claims to be Spyware and Adware free. These claims are false. It has limited options and there are many toolbars and advertisements associated with its installation, plus spying cookies inserted in your computer, all without your consent or awareness. You may notice the toolbars and some ads when browsing the Internet.
ViperDJ – Distribution
The “ViperDJ” usually gets into your computer through third-party installers. It can sneak into your computer without your consent, by concealing itself in freeware installations (such as toolbars) and bundled packages. In these packages, additional components for installation are not always disclosed properly, and people get tricked into installing potentially unwanted programs such as “ViperDJ”. Sometimes that can be avoided by clicking on the “Advanced” or “Custom” option in an installation setup to see what, exactly, will be installed.
Other ways of getting infected is by opening spam emails and downloading e-mail attachments, or by clicking on various advertisements and banners containing malicious content. You might also be misled to download it from its official site: “www.viper.dj”.
ViperDJ – More About It
“ViperDJ” is classified as an adware. It claims to be exciting DJ software with multiple useful functions. However, it is very limited. It lacks basic options, such as bitrate or audio formats. On the official site it is stated that:
→“you will have a possibility to create your personal audio achieves with much better quality.”
Upon saving an audio file you have only one format to choose and that is MP3, and the file created is with a static bitrate of 220 up to only 260 bits, depending on what the program decides for each file, even if said file was originally with a higher bitrate. Thus, the quality is not better at all when you have only one option provided. I cannot imagine any DJ or music lover to want to downgrade his audio library. Even the equalizer doesn’t work properly or as intended, and sometimes if you pull it down it might increase the volume.
ViperDJ is developed by the same developer that created “FullVideoConverter Pro” , and “FullAudioConverter”. That developer is called “Setup Manager LLC” and is notorious for creating programs with malicious content – you can even see herdProtect’s report about it.
When you browse the Internet after installing “ViperDJ”, it may collect different non-personally identifiable information about you like your search queries, websites you visited, your IP address, what have you clicked on, what you have installed on your computer and etc. This information may be used in order to show you more personalized commercial content and for other marketing purposes. You may also be shown different advertisements in the form of pop-ups or banners, toolbars, which may redirect you to various sites with other malicious content. The sites would potentially get pay-per-click revenue when you visit them, as well.
Also, it is said on the site of “ViperDJ”, that you may cancel the cookies and toolbars that you will be asked to whether you like to install them. It is quite the opposite, due to the fact that the application’s setup downloads and installs its files without asking you, and no “advanced” setup is shown if you download it from its official site.
