NTAppHelper – More Information

NTAppHelper is a potentially unwanted application, also known as PUA. There are many different types of unwanted apps, and some recently discovered ones by researchers are Patext, PublicToolboxLookup and LaunchEntry. These apps all have something in common and it is that they seem like helpful, while in reality they are more headache than a remedy.

NTAppHelper may be installed on your Mac via bundling and other forms of schemes. What happens is you may encounter this software to be promoted as a “free extra” or “optional offer” on an install step of software you have downloaded from some third-party freeware download site. And it is not easy seeing these install steps, too, because NTAppHelper may be hidden in the “Custom” than in the “Express” install most users click when they add an app.

Once NTAppHelper is in your Mac it may begin to modify your web browsers. We cannot exclude that there is a possibility this app may be responsible for a number of ads to start appearing on your Mac, like:

  • Text ads.
  • Banners.
  • Pop-ups.
  • Redirects.
  • Search ads.
  • Push pop-ups.

The ads that may be shown by this software may have various trackers embedded in them:

  • PersistentCookies.
  • Session Cookies.
  • Tags.
  • Pixels.
  • Geo-location trackers.
  • Flash Cookies.

These trackers are often used to get information from your Mac’s online activities. Such information may often include:

  • Which pages you see.
  • What is your browser history.
  • Sites you have bookmarked.
  • Where you click and move your mouse.

The trackers can stay for years time and collect such details if you don’t remove them in time. But they are not the main problem that is related to this software as it may show a number of risky ads on your Mac, that may lead to the following dangerous sites:

  • Fraudulent tech support.
  • Phishing.
  • Scam.
  • Virus.
  • Fake and rogue scammy software.
  • Endless redirect.
  • Scam surveys.

This is why the removal of this software is strongly recommended.
