Gamezonenews(.)net – How Did I Start Seeing It

It has been reported on Reddit that users haven`t managed to identify any browser extensions in browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari which points out to the file administering this being concealed somewhere in the directory. Such files may spread in case you have installed bundled freeware downloaded from third-party software providing websites. This may be your favorite media player, torrent downloading program, and other programs. It is strongly advisable to seek the official website of the software you want to download before actually downloading it with an unwanted program added “as a free extra” in the installer. Caution when installing is also highly recommended.

Gamezonenews(.)net – More about It

Once redirected to the website, the user may see flash player animated advertisements that if clicked on lead to unknown links. One particular advertisement led researchers to a redirect of a website that may be phishing and resembled AliExpress(.)com. Such websites are usually used as a fake online retailer stores. However, what is important was that before leading to the websites themselves, both connections passed through the following redirect web links:

→http://et-code(.)ru/clicks/AgAOAGlRC1QGDA==.php?

This is what appears to be a pay-per-visit scheme via this redirect and according to Norton analysts, cyber-criminals generate millions using such automated schemes. What it may also be is a service that offers such “pass-through” type of redirects collecting information from user PCs.

The website itself appears to be legitimate, providing news about gaming. However, similar to a site, called gangnamgame(.)net it appears randomly on user PCs. Gamezonenews(.)net also does not support any encryption on connection that is even more suspicious.
