TotalRecipeSearch – Distribution
The “TotalRecipeSearch” PUP is normally distributed via third-party installers. It can infect your PC without your knowledge, by hiding itself in freeware installations and bundled packages. In such packages, additional components for installation are not always disclosed properly, and you can get tricked into installing PUPs like “TotalRecipeSearch”. In some cases, that can be avoided by clicking on the “Advanced” or “Custom” setting in an installation setup to see what you are installing.
Another distribution method of “TotalRecipeSearch” is by clicking on different advertisement pop-ups and banners. They might have malicious content that can install a toolbar and a browser extension, which supports it.
TotalRecipeSearch – Description
“TotalRecipeSearch” is a browser hijacker. It is developed by MindSpark Interactive Network Inc. as many other similar malicious applications, like GetFormsOnline(.)com. When installed on your computer, this hijacker changes the browser homepage, new tab and search engine, and may also install a browser extension and a toolbar. Its domain name bears the same name: “TotalRecipeSearch(.)com”.
Once your browsers are hijacked, whenever you make a search, the results will use the “TotalRecipeSearch”search engine. All browsers can be affected, especially the most popular ones, like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari. You can also install a related browser extension manually from the official domain of “TotalRecipeSearch(.)com”, by agreeing to terms (shown in the picture):
If you try using the “TotalRecipeSearch” search or its new tab page or toolbar, they will display sponsored and falsified results. You may also be shown advertisements like pop-ups and banners. The sites, to which you may be redirected, can generate profit on a pay-per-click basis. They also might contain malware.

Step 1: Remove/Uninstall TotalRecipeSearch in Windows

Step 2: Remove TotalRecipeSearch from your browser
Select the “Add-ons” icon from the menu
Select TotalRecipeSearch and click “Remove”
After TotalRecipeSearch is removed, restart Mozilla Firefox by closing it from the red “X” in the top right corner and start it again.
Select TotalRecipeSearch to remove, and then click ‘Disable’. A pop-up window will appear to inform you that you are about to disable the selected toolbar, and some additional toolbars might be disabled as well. Leave all the boxes checked, and click ‘Disable’.

Click once on TotalRecipeSearch
A pop-up window will appear asking for confirmation to uninstall TotalRecipeSearch. Select ‘Uninstall’ again, and the TotalRecipeSearch will be removed.
