Smart Package Tracker – Update October 2019

Trackerpackage or also known as Smart Package Tracker is still an active browser hijacker. If you see the name Trackerpackage somewhere in your browser, then your computer has been compromised and you should scan it to check what unwanted programs may have been installed or downloaded to the machine. In October 2019, there are still victims reporting of having the Trackerpackage hijacker present on their computer systems, not knowing how it got in, so you too should be wary of such software.

Smart Package Tracker – Update October 2018

Tracker Package now also known as Smart Package Tracker seems to continue spreading in October, 2018. However, its developers have rebranded and are calling themselves “Polarity Technologies LTD” nowadays. The Privacy Policy has been updated accordingly and now the following information will also be collected from you:

  • Email address
  • IP address
  • Device-specific data (hardware model and operating system)
  • Data about crashes, system activity, hardware settings and browser language
  • Search queries and all related search data
  • Date and time of query request and referral URL
  • Your Browser Type
  • Source of traffic acquisition
  • Your geographic location
  • Domain name of your Internet Search Provider (ISP)

Except this, due to the enactment of GDPR in May, 2018, the Privacy Policy page may shift towards a newer and older one quite often. Be careful as having the TrackingPackage hijacker in one set with Airtostrong.exe is not something that you should overlook.

Tracker Package – Distribution Methods

Tracker Package can get installed on your computer through third-party install setups. That is because, the hijacker hides in freeware installations and bundled packages and you are unaware of that. Inside those packages, additional components for installation are rarely disclosed, and you could pick up the Tracker Package software. That can be avoided, if you check the Custom or Advanced setting in the setup.

In the above screenshot you can see the main download/distribution page of Tracker Package.

The hijacker might be distributed via an extension as well. Other methods of distribution for the hijacker are via advertisements, pop-ups, and banners or by visiting untrusted websites. Such sites are probably affiliates of the hijacker. Because of the Airtostrong.exe file, any browser can be affected, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari and Mozilla Firefox.

Tracker Package – More About It

Tracker Package is a browser hijacker. It is developed by the company SaferBrowser, like many other unwanted programs, such as Search.getmaps(.)co

Once on your computer, the hijacker will make changes to your browsers and their settings. The hijacker will modify the current homepage and will switch it with a custom one. The new tab, and search engine will also be different. Sometimes it sets a browser extension or an add-on. The extension can perform the following actions:

  • Read and change all your data on the websites you visit
  • Read and change your browsing history
  • Manage your downloads
  • Manage your apps, extensions and themes

Your search queries will go through the Home(.)searchtp(.)com address, which will filter all results. You might see sponsored content among the results, and sometimes they can be misleading. You could be redirected to partner sites of the hijacker from its search engine. Tracker Package presents itself as an application that can track packages you have ordered from well-renowned delivery services.

But upon trying to do that and enter your package ID number, you are prompted to install a related program that you do not want.
