You can get the Yamdex PUP through third-party installers. Unaware, you can get it installed on your computer because it hides in freeware installations and bundle packages. Inside the packages, additional components for installation may not be disclosed, tricking you to install Yamdex as well. This can be avoided if you see a Custom or Advanced setting in an installation setup.
Another way Yamdex can get installed on your PC is if you visit suspicious sites or click on advertisements, pop-ups or banners. Yamdex is a PUP, both distributed as a browser hijacker and an adware. When it is on your computer, Yamdex can change the browser’s homepage, new tab page, and search engine. It may add a browser extension. It may also do other changes to your browser settings. The website which is connected to the hijacker is Yamdex(.)net. The domain is made to be close to that of Yamdex(.)ru, but is filled with a lot of intrusive advertisements.
You may be redirected to many suspicious sites or sponsored content. From the redirects, the site owners and their affiliates can make money on a pay-per-click scheme.
When your browsers are hijacked, whenever you do a search, the results will be filtered by Yamdex, so you can see sponsored content and get redirected to pages for advertisement purposes or to get infected with other potentially unwanted software.
