Google is buying cybersecurity company Mandiant in an all-cash deal, valued at $5.4 billion. The news comes from an announcement the two companies recently made. According to Google’s press release, Google has signed “a definitive agreement to acquire Mandiant Inc.”, Inc., a leading company in dynamic cyber defense and response.

A Billion-Dollar Acquisition
The deal was made for $23.00 per share, in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $5.4 billion, inclusive of Mandiant’s net cash. Once the acquisition is closed, Mandiant is set to join Google Cloud.
It is noteworthy that in 2013, Mandiant was acquired by FireEye in a stock and cash deal estimated at $1 billion. In June 2021, after 7 years of stagnant growth under parent company FireEye, Mandiant sold the FireEye product line, name, and roughly 1300 employees to Symphony Technology Group for $1.2 billion.
What Does Mandiant Acquisition Mean to Google?
The deal is expected to complement Google Cloud’s security strengths and robust set of services, including BeyondCorp Enterprise for Zero Trust and VirusTotal, Chronicle’s planet-scale security analytics and automation, and services such as Security Command Center that helps organizations detect and protect themselves from cyber threats.
“With the addition of Mandiant, Google Cloud will enhance these offerings to deliver an end-to-end security operations suite with even greater capabilities to support customers across their cloud and on-premise environments,” the announcement added.
