Currently, the PC users made a big fuss about the keylogging and the rest of the “spying” capabilities of Windows 10 recently released version of the Technical Preview. The IT specialists confirm that the claim is true, stating however that this ability has not been a secret. People who have downloaded the OS to make tests were first presented with a Privacy Statement, according to which when the user acquires, installs and uses the Program, he gives permission for Microsoft to collect information about him, the devices, applications and networks used.
The data that is collected by the users include the name, email address, interests ad preferences, file history, search and browsing history, device configuration and sensor data, phone call and SMS data, application usage, etc.
The information that is collected is used for various purposes such as determining or improving compatibility, voice information to improve speech processing, file information to improve performance, typed characters to improve autocomplete and spellcheck features, etc.
All regular testers are aware that by using the software technical previews, the data collected is applied in order to improve the final version of the product. These testers also know that the Technical Preview versions often have bugs and are insecure in general that is why they are not fit to handle data that is sensitive. Naturally, the final version of the product, ready for commercial usage will be free of these capabilities.
Microsoft has recently released a statement to reassure the testers that the data sent from the Technical Preview of Windows 10 to Microsoft is encrypted, and the personal information is stored on computer systems with limited access.
