What Is Baboom?
Baboom itself is not an application. It is a developer, which is responsible for two programs: Baboom Search and Baboom NewTab. Both of these are sometimes dubbed “Baboom Virus” and “Baboom Search Virus.” Baboom Search promises that it will enhance your online searching, while Baboom NewTab is supposed to give you access to over 100,000 radio stations that you can listen to while browsing the web. These programs are categorized as browser hijackers as they will change the setting on your browser once they have been installed. Such programs are considered unwanted and potentially hazardous to your system. This is why you should remove Baboom Search and Baboom NewTab from your computer right away.
What Does Baboom Do?
Once installed, the Baboom programs will attach a browser extension to your computer. They will set search.safefinder.com as your default search engine and homepage. This website uses a plethora of browser hijackers to get people to use it. Although it may seem like a regular search engine, it is not advised that you use it. It will show you a multitude of promoted search results. So it is unlikely that it will even be useful.
Where Did Baboom Come from?
The Baboom extensions are available on the Chrome Web Store. This means that you could have acquired them yourself. However, they may have also made their way onto your PC in another way: via bundling. This method consists of the Baboom extensions being attached to installers of free applications. This way, they can get installed without being noticed by users. Other unwanted applications also use the same method. If you do not want unwanted software to enter your PC, you should do the following:
- Download programs from reliable sources only.
- Review all information shown in the installer.
- Opt for the Advanced/Custom option. This will allow you to decline the installation of any additional software.
What Are the Dangers of Baboom?
These extensions can lead to some dire consequences for your system’s security. The search engine will show you numerous promoted websites. It is very likely that these will not be reliable. If you click on them, they can take you to malicious websites. The extensions can also show you pop-up ads. Some of these may also turn out to be misleading and take you to harmful web pages. Because of this, removing Baboom right away is the best thing you can do.
How to Remove Baboom
You can remove the Baboom extensions manually by doing the following:
1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Open the list of applications.
3. Find the unwanted extensions.
4. Uninstall them.
You should also reset your browser’s homepage and default search engine. You may think that this is enough to ensure that your system is safe, but it is not. It is possible that more unwanted applications could have entered your system. They could cause you the same problems as the Baboom programs. Even worse, malware could have already infiltrated your system, or can in the future as it is obviously unprotected. This is why the recommended thing to do by cybersecurity specialists is to install a reliable AV program. It will not only rid your system of all intruders, but it will also protect it against any further attempts at compromising it.
