Technical Description of FoxTab Browser Extension
The browser extension is available for download on the Mozilla add-ons page and has been downloaded multiple times. However, if you go through the users’ comments and reviews, you will notice that people were generally unsatisfied with it. According to our research, uninstalling the extension from the browser may not be successful.
Even though many users have found FoxTab useful, some of them have met compatibility issues and have decided to uninstall it. Others don’t recall downloading it which means that FoxTab landed on their PC in a bundled installer.
NOTE
If you have noticed that your search page has been changed to search.foxtab.com and your new tab page – switched to newtab.foxtab.com, your browser’s default settings have been changed as well. Hence, FoxTab has been classified as a browser hijacker.
FoxTab may not be a malicious threat, but it may be intrusive. Once installed, the browser extension may start redirecting you to predefined pages.
Other problems pointed out by users running the extension are:
- All saved tabs are lost, since FoxTab doesn’t offer a recovery option.
- When installed on Mozilla Firefox, FoxTab may wipe out all the user’s icons.
- The Customize option may not work.
- FoxTab may interfere with the functionality of the user’s browser extensions.
