Gestyy.com Ads – Spread and Impact

Gestyy.com shortened links have been viral for quite some time. This could be explained by the fact that the Gestyy online service enables websites’ owners to earn money from all kinds of URLs shortened through it. Unfortunately, reports indicate that lots of potentially unwated/malicious programs are injecting Gestyy.com ads as well. Hence, the moment one of those apps infects your operating system, it starts injecting annoying Gestyy ads in the browser and on the desktop. These ads can appear on websites you visit without the permission of website owners. These ads have the sole purpose to generate revenue for their operators.

How this shady advertising scheme works is via annoying redirects that force users to wait 5 seconds before they can visit the original source.

mozilla firefox browser redirected to gestyy.com ads

Gestyy.com ads show deceptive messages in an attempt to trick you into visiting sponsored content. When your favorite browser is forced to load Gestyy.com ads it may become sluggish and unresponsive. The appearance of Gestyy.com ads in the browser may be triggered by a potentially unwanted program of adware-type.

Infection with adware often occurs unnoticeably. The installation process may happen during the installation of a desired free app. This spread technique of PUPs is called software bundling. Unfortunately, there are many many free programs across the web that come with extras in their installers. Their installers are set to install “extra” apps by default. They are also designed in a way that tricks you to agree with the installation of additional apps by keeping you unaware of it. These apps could be media players, readers, drivers, etc.

To prevent this side effect and keep potentially unwanted programs (adware, browser hijackers, browser extensions, etc.) away from your computer system, you need to check the details presented on each installer step. It is also preferable to choose the Advanced/Custom configuration step whenever it is available. There you may be able to detect the presence of added PUPs and eventually opt out of their installation.

And as long as an undesired program is running on your PC it will not only keep causing redirects to Gestyy.com but also generate lots of additional annoying ads all over the browser. The ads may be of the following types:

  • Pop-up ads.
  • Banners.
  • Ad-supported search results.
  • Highlighted text on the sites you visit.

Since these ads may be set to open corrupted web pages that deliver malware, they may unnoticeably infect your device with severe threats like ransomware, Trojans, spyware, and other.

Spammy websites like Gestyy.com, News-venere.com and Watchstream.best are often part of shady advertising schemes. They often try to convince you to subscribe to online streaming platforms, allow annoying push notifications, install undesired apps like fake system optimizers, rogue anti-virus programs and other activities that could cause some serious issues. So beware and do not accept any offers displayed on such ads websites.
