The Iminent Toolbar is the one that may change the settings of your current browser and set Search.iminent.com as your homepage and default search engine. So in order to stop the redirects, you need to uninstall the toolbar first. Security experts strongly advise users to remove the toolbar because of the potential malware risks involved with the browsing of unverified or unsafe links.
What is Iminent and How Does It Affect Your PC?
The Iminent Toolbar is a browser extension that generates emoticons when you use Facebook and other web-based email products. The add-on is compatible with the most common browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. It can be downloaded from the official page of the product, but it can also end up on your computer when you download freeware and shareware online. Adware often gets installed on the user’s PC bundled with other programs and applications. In order to avoid such potentially unwanted apps, always pay attention to the steps of the Installation Wizard and make sure to uncheck any program you don’t want on your computer.
Once installed, the Iminent Toolbar changes the settings of your current browser, altering your default search engine and homepage to start.imient.com. Since it is an add-supported application, you will be presented with various pop-up, in-text and banner advertisements along with the search results.
What Type of Information Does Iminent Collect?
The Iminent Toolbar and the search feature use cookies and other tracking technology to collect information about your browsing habits and search queries, in order to improve their services and provide the user with accurate search results, advertisements or other information that matches the user’s interests. According to the Privacy Policy on the website, the Iminent Toolbar and search engine may also collect the following data:
- Personally identifying information (email address, username, etc.)
- Personally non-identifying (IP address, operating system type, etc.)
This information may be collected for advertising purposes and may be sold to third-parties.
