Nok App – More Information
Nok App is a browser hijacker. This means it enters your computer as a legitimate program, and begins to modify your web browser in order to change its new tab, home and search pages so that you see ads instead of objective results. Other programs we have seen doing this are Direct Search, SimpleSignSearch and 1337x.to.
Be advised that the main activity Nok App does on your computer is related to ads. This app may be installed by being promoted in the setups of other freeware app you may have recently downloaded. There, it could exist in one of the installation steps, where it may seem like a “free extra” or an “optional offer” that is added to the current setup.
The ads that may appear on your machine as a result of Nok App installed in it could be from the following kinds:
- Search result ads.
- Ads, embedded in text.
- Banner promotions.
- Push pop-ups.
These ads plus the Nok App itself may track your online browser actions by monitoring the following information while you are browsing:
- The web pages you have visited.
- Where you click online.
- Which sites are your bookmarks.
- What is your browsing history.
This tracking is performed by so called, cookies, pixels, tags and other trackers. These are small objects dropped on your drive and they could be very hard to find and delete manually.
But tracking you is no concern when we compare it to the main risk this app may bring on your head. The ads that may be shown by Nok App could eventually lead you to various dangerous domains, like:
- Fake Tech Support
- Survey frauds.
- Virus pages or domains.
This is the main reason why Nok App has been classified as indirectly dangerous to your computer and should be removed on sight.
