EasyDialSearch(.)com – Distribution Ways
One of the common ways of distribution used by EasyDialSearch(.)com is via third-party installation setups. The hijacker can get inside your computer without you noticing because it hides in freeware installations and bundle packages. In the packages, there are additional components selected for installation by default. These components aren’t disclosed properly, and you can install EasyDialSearch(.)com along with other software related to it. To avoid that, you should check for a Custom or an Advanced setting in the installation setup.
As shown above, there is a program associated to the hijacker on the Google Web Store. The hijacker can be distributed via advertisements, like banners and pop-ups or by visiting untrusted websites. Such sites are probably affiliated with the hijacker’s site. The most frequently affected browsers are Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.
EasyDialSearch(.)com – Information
EasyDialSearch(.)com is the domain of a typical browser hijacker. If you have it on your computer, it will customize the settings of all of your browsers. It will change a browser’s homepage, new tab setting, and its search engine. A program on the Google Web Store is associated to the hijacker – Easy Dial. If you try to install it, an automatic download will start of a file package with a .crx extension which is more than 15 MB. This is unusual, and that file can contain anything from this particular unwanted application to malware.
The browser extension may come in other ways to your browsers, but it is mainly bundled with the software installed on your computer. It can redirect you to the EasyDialSearch(.)com domain and other ones as well. This same extension, Easy Dial, can do the following:
- Read and change all your data on the websites you visit
- Read and change your browsing history
- Read and change your bookmarks
- Manage your apps, add-ons, extensions and themes
Each of your search queries will pass through the EasyDialSearch(.)com/search? address, which will filter them. You could see misleading results or link redirects when you try to do a search. You can see such in the picture below:
The redirects can lead to pages located on the same domain of the hijacker’s search engine, namely EasyDialSearch(.)com/search. Sometimes those redirects can lead to empty pages or ones with errors:
That might be done with the aim of getting more clicks on that domain, so the site gains more revenue on a pay-per-click basis. In the future, those pages could turn active and redirect to other ones or spread unwanted programs and even malicious code.
Advertisements can show on webpages and results too, in various forms, like pop-ups, pop-unders, in-text-links, banners, etc.
The Privacy Policy of EasyDialSearch(.)com claims that the makers of the hijacker want to protect your data and don’t collect personal information. But some things contradict that, such as the claim that they receive sensitive information and will redirect you to a secure connection. It is not certain through what channels that information passes.
It is clear from the policy that by using any services and software of Easy Dial you give your consent automatically for your information to be collected. You must be cautious when doing searches and what information you type in. Additionally, the policy can change at any moment without your knowledge.
