Prenow.net Redirect – How Did I Get It?

Prenow.net is a site that is most likely created to support bogus purposes like malicious advertising. Installation of various potentially unwanted programs is the most common reason for such type of browser redirecting issues.

Other sites known to be closely related to PUPs and shady advertising networks are Venuedurin.xyz, Ourcoolstories.com, Paymentsweb.org.

The methods that could enable the appearance of Prenow.net redirects in your web browsers are typically the following:

  • Suspicious sites that run malicious scripts to trigger the load of other untrustworthy sites.
  • Sites and pop-ups that advertise PUPs as useful programs.
  • Software bundles.
  • Scam and phishing pages.

Software bundling is the primary method known to support the spread of unreliable programs and sites related to their activities. This could be explained by the fact that the vicious apps are easilly infected into the installers of supposedly useful and free apps. The example image below shows how an app installer could look like:

Make sure to check the details mentioned in every installer option, especially those kept by the Advanced/Custom step. By doing this you can protect your PC from the unwanted installation of extra apps that diminish its security.

Prenow.net Ads – What Do They Do?

Prenow.net ads aim to hijack online browsing in order to make you more prone to visit sponsored content. Their appearance in the web browser may affect both the security and the performance of your entire computer.

Multiple types of adverts may start to show up on your web browser after Prenow.net obtains access to it. Beware of all these ads because they solely aim to generate profit for fraudsters via the so-called pay-per-click affiliate scheme.

This being said means also that the sites promoted by annoying ads may endanger the overall PC security. You may happen to visit pages that host online scams, malicious advertising landing pages, sites hacked to run dangerous scripts and online portals that automatically download and install malware.

Furthermore, the Prenow.net redirect and the software supporting it may add trackers like cookies, pixels, tags, etc. to obtain information about your device and your online browsing. If you miss checking the browser and the system for such trackers, they can continue harvesting data for years.

The data harvesting is primarily performed for the improvement of any future advertising campaigns. Still, data records can be shared with third parties, sold to other fraudsters and released on dark web forums.
