The notorious app Evernote, installed by default in some Android devices has announced the changing of it’s privacy policy in order to give the right to it’s own employees to check and monitor the notes of its customers. And users can do nothing to prevent this from happening.
In the announcement, the company says that they will make the changes at 23rd of January, 2017. Anyone who is using the app and is privacy-sensitive should migrate to another application and delete their notes until that date.
Changes Made Because in The Name Of Research
The company has decided to make this change because of it’s demands to increase the artificial learning capabilities of it’s automated software. This is achievable by giving the right to several employees of the company to check the information of the users directly and hence train the app’s AI.
Anyone is free to opt out of these automated settings, despite all. The company has given a choice to opt out of this automated learning features. The bad news here is that, even if you opt-out of Evernote’s new features, your notes may still be read by the company personnel.
Despite all, the company has announced that the employees who will deal with the private information are specifically chosen for this task and are trained in discretion and anonymizing.
Websites, like Networkworld advise users who wish to remain private while using Evernote, to take advantage of the desktop app of the software which allows the encryption of the notes, so that even the company cannot snoop them.
The app also reportedly has an export function that gives the ability of all it’s notes to be exported in HTML formats which can allow you to migrate from this application.
Many vendors have already offered exporting compatibility to their own veriants of Evernote, such as Microsoft Onenote, Bear and others.
