Popular threesome and gay dating apps have been breached by unknown hackers. According to the security releases this includes 3fun, Grindr, Recon and Romeo among others, but what’s particularly worrying is that the data of UK Politicians has been leaked from them. This means that they must have been using the apps. According to the released reports the collected information also includes profiles who were located in the US White House and Supreme Court. The whole database lists more than 1.5 million users located around the world.
1.5 Million Users Affected By The Threesome and Gay Dating Apps Breach
An unknown hacker collective has been able to breach many of the most well-known threesome and gay dating apps used by many mobile users. The worrying fact is that this includes the likes of 3funGrindr among others. A total of 1.5 million users are affected and the nature of their data may be used to carry out other crimes. The exposed information includes the following:
- Location Data
- Private Photos
- Chat Data
- Sexual Preferences
- Relationship Status
- Birth Dates
According to released information the worst security is attributed to the 3fun app. During a penetration test the experts were able to pinpoint exact locations of the users. The other dating apps used a triangulation approach which gave a non-exact location data.
The exact cause of the breaches are not known however the large number of affected users shows that this is possibly a shared weakness in the servers or functionality across the applications. A dangerous consequence is that the archives include data of politicians — location data of users that are located at 10 Downing Street, the US White House and the American Supreme Court.
Following the breaches most of the dating apps released security updates in order to protect their users from further data leakage.
