Shoponi is one of the many potentially unwanted programs that offer online shopping assistance by displaying different banners, pop-ups, deals, and coupons. The application is not considered to be of a malicious nature, yet the promoted ads bear the potential risk of malware infiltration in the affected system. If clicked on, these third-party advertisements may link the user to web pages with unverified content and lead to system instability. Experts recommend using a competent anti-malware tool that will detect and remove any potential threat on your computer.
How Is Shoponi Distributed?
“Ads by Shoponi” usually end up on your computer bundled with other free software. Many free download sites employ “download clients” so they can monetize different free services and boost their web traffic. Additional installations are only disclosed in the Advanced options; selecting them you can manage each step of the process personally and uncheck the programs you do not want on your PC.
How Does Shoponi Work?
Once installed, Shoponi will display different advertisements labeled “Ads by Shoponi”, “Powered by Shoponi”, etc. in the web pages you view. These may seem harmless, but experts warn that they may contribute different issues to your system.
Shoponi may expose browser settings-changing capabilities and redirect you to predetermined websites with questionable content.
The application collects information about your browsing routine so that it can provide advertisements matching your interests. The data it tracks may include IP address, search entries, duration of the browsing sessions, web pages visited, etc. Many browser extensions like Shoponi use browsing cookies and collect personally identifiable information as well. The latter is often shared with third party advertisers and can be used for marketing purposes.
