What Is CheapMe?
CheapMe is a program that will supposedly help users save money when shopping online. It promises to deliver deals, promotions, and coupons straight to you. While this makes it seem as though CheapMe is a program you want to have on your computer, we strongly advise against it. This is yet another adware program. Adware applications are regarded as unreliable as it is not difficult for cyber criminals to exploit them. So rather than getting some benefit from the program, your PC can be exposed to virtual risks. This is why removing the program is the recommended course of action.
How Did CheapMe Get Distributed?
At one time CheapMe had an official web page, but even then users could not be downloaded from there even if they wanted to. Still, CheapMe can be installed on your computer, and it will most likely happen unbeknownst to you.
For this, CheapMe uses bundled downloads, which is a tactic implemented by numerous other adware programs, as well as hijackers. Typically adware programs are attached to free applications. If you do not want to install any unwanted programs on your PC by mistake, here are a few tips you could follow:
- Do not download software from third-party distributors.
- Stay vigilant throughout the whole installation process and do not just skip over it.
- Select Custom/Advanced installation as this will allow you to prevent any additional software from being installed.
What Does CheapMe Do?
CheapMe will be attached to your browser as soon as it has been installed. It is compatible with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. The ads will appear as banners, pop-ups, as well as in in-text format. They will not only offer you popular items, but things that you have recently looked up online. As an adware program, CheapMe can collect data on your browsing.
What Are the Dangers of CheapMe?
The CheapMe ads will be annoying as hell. However, this is not the thing you should worry most about. The real problem is that it can show ads that lead to malicious websites. And there is no way to know which ad leads to where before it is already too late. Once you land on a harmful website, there are a number of things that cyber criminals can try in order to gain access to your PC or get you to share your sensitive information. They can transfer malware onto your computer, for instance. They may also attempt a phishing scheme. To avoid these risks, you must remove CheapMe right away.
