PricePeep is an add-on that can be installed on the popular browsers like Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, etc. PricePeep is supposed to improve your online shopping experience by presenting you with different advertisements in the form of pop-ups, banners, coupons, etc. The displayed ads may be of interest to some users, but you should bear in mind that they might link you to potentially unreliable web locations if you choose to click on them.
How Does PricePeep Affect Your PC?
Upon installation, PricePeep injects a large amount of pop-up, in-text and banner ads. These can be not only annoying but also potentially dangerous. Adware programs are generally used by third parties to raise web traffic and generate pay-per-click revenue. The displayed advertisements may redirect the user to compromised websites. PricePeep does not assume liability for the content or the privacy policies of these sites, so any threat, you get exposed to by visiting one, is at your own responsibility.
In order to provide relevant advertising content PricePeep tracks certain information. This may include:
- Browsing history (visited web pages, clicks and search terms)
- Personally identifiable information (data from and about social media websites you have visited)
- IP address
The gathered data may be shared with third parties for the purposes of targeted advertisement.
How Is PricePeep Distributed?
PricePeep is usually delivered bundled with various free of charge programs you can download online, like media players, video players, program updates, etc. This distribution technique is applied by many developers and is not considered illegal. But if you wish to avoid any unwanted installations, you should select the Custom installation options and un-tick the additional apps or plugins you have no use of. This can save you a lot of time and effort later.
Adware can end up on your computer through drive-by downloads, by visiting corrupted websites and off course via spam email messages. Choose your download sources mindfully and do not open email attachments you are not expecting. Keep your AV program up-to-date and backup your important files on a regular basis.
