CCPS Virus – How Did I Get Infected?

CCPS Virus virus likely share the same code with other variants of this ransomware family, like .bbbr, .bbbw and .bbbe and .bbbw .

This particular infection could be spreading in the same way that most of the versions of Djvu/Stop spread and that is either via e-mail or if downloaded from some location. In case this virus is sent to you via email, it could exist in the form of an email attachment, that pretends to be a legitimate and helpful document:

  • Work-related files.
  • Receipts.
  • Invoices.
  • E-Tickets for events or flights.

Downloading and executing this attachment may trigger a malicious macro infection process, like shown in the figure below:

Another strategy that is used by this virus is to also wait around for you to download it on some suspicious website. Most viruses pretended to be game mods, hacks and other kinds of executables and software download sites:

  • Self extracting archives or regular archives.
  • Fake installation files.
  • Software patches.
  • Cracked portable versions of apps.
  • Software or game cracks.
  • Key generator (or Keygen).

CCPS Virus Virus – What Does It Do?

When the victim of CCPS Virus virus first activates the infection, that malware connects to a remote server, that is operated by the criminals and from there it downloads the malicious files that are used to encrypt your data. These files may be different names and could be in the following directories of Windows:

  • %AppData%
  • %Windows%
  • %SystemDrive%
  • %LocalLow%
  • %Local%
  • %Temp%
  • %System%
  • %system32%
CCPS Virus virus is the kind of malicious software that also leaves behind its ransom note so that you can see it, because it contains the instructions on how you can contact the crooks:

The CCPS Virus virus also attacks the Registry Editor of Windows, for example the “Run” and “RunOnce” keys:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Adding value strings in your registry allows the virus to perform administrative activities like read and modify files, change program settings, disable your antivirus and even run automatically on system start up.

What Are .CCPS Virus Files

CCPS Virus virus encrypt your files, by using a sophisticated encryption algorithm, that is known as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). This particular infection is configured in a way to scan for your files and encrypt them based on the file extensions they have, for example:

  • Videos (.mp4, .avi, etc.).
  • Archive file formats (.zip, .rar, etc).
  • Audio (.mp3, .wav, etc.).
