Deskgram – Spread and Impact
Deskgram is an unwanted application of adware kind. Contrary to affected users’ beliefs, it is not a malicious app that aims to damage system settings or personal files. Even though it is not a virus, its presence on your device disrupts system security and exposes it at greater risk of malware intrusions.
In the event that Deskgram has managed to sneak in your computer, you are likely to be spammed with many annoying advertisements every time you are browsing the web. These ads could be usually recognized by the phrases:
- Ads generated by Deskgram
- Delivered by Deskgram
- Promoted by Deskgram
- Sponsored by Deskgram
The annoying application is likely to affect commonly used web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Opera and Safari. As revealed by affected users’ reports, Deskgram lands on the targeted operating system be it Windows or macOS without any notifications. And that’s why it is classified as a potentially unwanted program.
Since it is known to be spread via shady techniques like software bundling, freeware packages and corrupted websites, it is very likely that it somehow managed to trick you into allowing its installation.
Let’s guess that it has landed on your system as part of a software bundle. Then you might have unnoticeably installed it by following the setup steps of a desired program. To avoid this side effect in future you could have in mind the following prevention tips:
- Always select the Advanced/Custom software installing method and read carefully all details listed there
- Avoid downloading apps from unknown websites
Another case of infection with Deskgram may occur while you are browsing the web. In this case, your browser is likely to be redirected to a supposedly associated website deskgram.net or a sub-domain of this website. Once loaded in the browser this website could attempt to drop an undesired app on your device or install several cookies at least.
Once running on your computer the undesired program Deskgram becomes able to access the settings of all installed web browsers. By doing this, it aims to apply some unwanted changes that enable it to generate sponsored content during browsing sessions. As a result, you become a target of massive advertising campaigns. The annoying ads generated by Deskgram could appear in various formats including pop-ups pop-unders, banners, in-text links, images, etc. You could be spammed with them every time you are browsing the web.
Beware of all these ads, as some of them may be misused for the delivery of malicious software like spyware, Trojan horse, or even ransomware. For the sake of your security, we recommend you to refrain from visiting promoted websites and remove all files associated with Deskgram as soon as possible.
Yet another reason to consider the immediate removal of Deskgram from your affected browser and system is the real chance of privacy violation. To complete their goals, undesired apps of adware type are often configured to utilize different tracking technologies. So as long as the unwanted program is running on your device it may be able to track certain details that define your interests and browsing behavior.
