FunMoods – Distribution Methods

The FunMoods PUP is usually distributed with third-party installers. Unaware, you can get the PUP installed on your machine because it can hide in freeware installations and bundled packages. In these types of packages, additional components for installation are not always disclosed, and you can get cheated into installing FunMoods. Occasionally, this can be avoided if you see what will be installed by the installation setup from the Advanced or Custom setting.

Another distribution method of FunMoods is if you visit its official websites at funmoods(.)com or facemoods(.)com. You can also get it by visiting suspicious sites or if you click on advertisement pop-ups or banners. Here’s an example:

The websites along with the ads might add a related browser extension or make modifications to your browser. That way you might be constantly redirected to the FunMoods official site or its partner sites. All browsers can be affected, especially Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari.

FunMoods – More Information

FunMoods is a PUP, that can be both a browser hijacker and adware. It is developed by Volonet Ltd. The developers may be affiliates with the ones that made Mega Player. When installed on your computer, FunMoods changes the browser’s homepage, the new tab page, and the search engine. It also installs a browser toolbar and an extension. Sites, to which you may constantly get redirected to, are the following:

  • funmoods(.)com
  • facemoods(.)com
  • start.funmoods(.)com
  • start.facemoods(.)com

These and other sites, to which you may be redirected, can make revenue on a pay-per-click basis.

When your browsers are hijacked, whenever you do a search, the results will go through the FunMoods search engine and your homepage and searches will be set to the start.funmoods(.)com domain:

The Privacy Policy of FunMoods currently states that a cookie will be placed on your computer and different information about you and your computer can be collected:

The different information that may be collected, as stated above, includes, but is not limited to:

  • IP address
  • geo-location
  • Browser types and browser language
  • operating system and language
  • whether the OS is 32bit or 64bit
  • installation date
  • time zone
  • your default search providers
  • changes made in your system

All information gathered about you may be shared to third parties, meaning you automatically accept the Privacy Policy of any third-party affiliates of FunMoods and Volonet Ltd.

FunMoods – Removal Manual

To remove FunMoods manually from your computer, follow the step-by-step removal instructions below. In case the manual removal does not get rid of the PUP and its modifications completely, you should search and remove any leftovers with an advanced anti-malware program. Such a program will also make sure your computer is safe in the future.

Step 1: Remove/Uninstall FunMoods in Windows

Here is a method in few easy steps to remove that program. No matter if you are using Windows 8, 7, Vista or XP, those steps will get the job done. Dragging the program or its folder to the recycle bin can be a very bad decision. If you do that, bits and pieces of the program get left behind, and that can lead to unstable work of your PC, mistakes with the file type associations and other unpleasant activities. The proper way to get a program off your computer is to Uninstall it. To do that:

  • Hold the Windows Logo Button and “R” on your keyboard. A Pop-up window will appear (fig.1).

  • In the field type in “appwiz.cpl” and press ENTER (fig.2).

  • This will open a window with all the programs installed on the PC.
    Select the program that you want to remove, and press “Uninstall” (fig.3).

    Follow the instructions above and you will successfully uninstall FunMoods.

    Step 2: Remove FunMoods from your browser

    After FunMoods is removed, restart Mozilla Firefox by closing it from the red “X” in the top right corner and start it again.

  • Move the cursor over “Tools” and then from the extended menu choose “Extensions

  • From the opened “Extensions” menu locate FunMoods and click on the garbage bin icon on the right of it.

  • After FunMoods is removed, restart Google Chrome by closing it from the red “X” in the top right corner and start it again.
  • Start Internet Explorer:

  • Click “‘Tools’ to open the drop menu and select ‘Manage Add-ons’

  • In the ‘Manage Add-ons’ window, make sure that in the first window ‘Add-on Types’, the drop menu ‘Show’ is on ‘All add-ons’

    Select FunMoods to remove, and then click ‘Disable’. A pop-up window will appear to inform you that you are about to disable the selected toolbar, and some additional toolbars might be disabled as well. Leave all the boxes checked, and click ‘Disable’.

    After FunMoods has been removed, restart Internet Explorer by closing it from the red ‘X’ in the top right corner and start it again.

    Start Safari

    Open the drop menu by clicking on the sprocket icon in the top right corner.

    From the drop menu select ‘Preferences’
    In the new window select ‘Extensions’
    Click once on FunMoods
    Click ‘Uninstall’

    A pop-up window will appear asking for confirmation to uninstall FunMoods. Select ‘Uninstall’ again, and the FunMoods will be removed.
