Olcinium Browser – How Did I Get It?

The “Olcinium Browser” PUP usually gets into your computer through third-party installers. It can sneak into your computer without your approval, by hiding itself in freeware installations and bundled packages. In these packages, additional components for installation are not always disclosed properly, and people get tricked into installing potentially unwanted programs such as “Olcinium Browser”. Sometimes that can be avoided by clicking on the “Advanced” or “Custom” setting in an installation setup to see what, exactly, will be installed.

Other ways of getting infected are by opening spam emails and downloading e-mail attachments, or by clicking on various ads and banners containing malicious content which may also add a browser extension to your browser. Browsers known to be affected the most are Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari. The browser extension can generate “Olcinium Browser” pop-ups on any page you are on and usually leads to sites where you can install it. The pop-ups can show additional banners or other commercial content.

Olcinium Browser – More About It

Olcinium Browser is classified as an adware, but it has hijacking capabilities. Once it is into your computer, it will generate pop-up messages, which may redirect you to sites, from which you can install software with potentially malicious content. You could be redirected to domains which gain money from every click by generating web traffic and you could possibly download the Olcinium Browser, which looks like a very good copy of Google Chrome.

Also, you may have a browser extension causing some of the browser redirects, pop-ups and advertisements appearing, such as “Ads by Olcinium Browser“, “Ad by Olcinium Browser“, “Powered by Olcinium Browser ” or “Brought to you by Olcinium Browser”. The redirects may be with the aim of generating revenue for its authors on a pay-per-click basis. The PUP may also add browser helper objects, a toolbar or any other plugins and extensions, that can further aid the malicious activities and may also reshape a browser to look like the PUP.

The publisher of this browser and the adware that supports it is called Clara Labs Software with the domain. In the Privacy Policy section of the site it says that by installing anything from that publisher you automatically give your consent to be shown adware. You can see the details:

The PUP is probably using cookies, and every time you are redirected to it or one of its probable affiliate sites, you may be tracked. That may allow for sensitive information to be stolen secretly from you as credentials, geographical location, IP address and other data. Some of that data can be used in order to generate more attractive commercial content to you. Your PC and data are at risk, so this is something you should definitely be concerned of!
