HopToShop is a browser extension that is supposed to enhance your online shopping experience by displaying different deals, coupons, banners, pop-ups, etc. The application is not malicious, but the promoted third-party advertisements may link you to websites with unverified content and expose the system to security risk. Experts recommend using a competent anti-spyware tool that will detect and remove any threat on your machine.
HopToShop Distribution Method
“Ads by HopToShop” usually infiltrate your computer bundled with freeware and shareware. Many free download sites employ “download clients” in order to monetize various free services and boost their web traffic. Any additional installations can be seen in the Advanced options; selecting them you can manage each stage of the process personally and un-select the programs and applications you do not want on your PC.
Once installed, HopToShop starts injecting numerous deals, coupons and pop-up advertisements in the web pages you visit. The ads may appear harmless, but malware experts alert that interacting with them can expose you to misleading content, cause system instability and redirect you potentially unsafe websites.
HopToShop may change the current browser settings and redirect you to predetermined web pages. The application is compatible with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and other commonly used browsers.
