V9 Redirect Virus is a browser hijacker redirecting you to the search engine website V9.com in order to gain traffic. Malware experts recommend its removal as it may expose your system to more serious threats from the Web.
How Does V9 Work?
V9 Redirect Virus will alter your default browser settings and replace your home page to v9.com. As a typical browser hijacker, V9 will start displaying multiple pop-up advertisements that, when clicked, may redirect you to potentially infected websites. Thus, although V9 is not malicious by its nature, it exposes your system to potentially malicious websites that could then infect your PC with serious viruses.
The purpose of V9 is to gain traffic to its webpage which could be monetized in various ways. The browser hijacker is also capable of monitoring your browsing activities and recording them just to share them with advertising agencies. They, on the other hand, will personalize the pop-up ads in order to fit your searches.
How Does V9 Enter Your PC?
V9 Redirect usually enters your system bundled with other freeware you download. The bundling is a popular method of installing programs without your knowledge but with your consent. That is possible when you automatically accept the “recommended” installation settings without really knowing what they include.
In order to be safe then, you must pay close attention to the installation process of any freeware you download from the Web. Always disallow the default settings and choose “custom” or “advanced” instead.
