ExtraList PUA – Detailed Description
ExtraList is classified as a potentially unwanted application with adware capabilities. As such, the PUA’s configuration files could be spread via software bundling and corrupted third-party installers. These are the primary methods for distribution of adware and unwanted software. Third party marketers and app developers rely on bundled software installers for quick monetization. Adware, which stands for ad-supported software, generates pop-up ads which then generate revenue for the involved parties on a pay-per-click basis.
Most users affected by ExtraList could have caught the “virus” by installing third-party apps downloaded from suspicious websites. The idea behind ad-supported apps such as this one is that they generate intrusive advertisements that can be difficult to close. The apps could promise you a range of useful benefits, but in fact their only purpose is monetization, for which they were developed in the first place.
In most cases, PUAs such as ExtraList are designed to affect popular web browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge and Safari.
Data collection practices may also be associated with ExtraList, such as the use of tracking technologies like cookies, web beacons and log files. That being said, ExtraList could collect:
- Visited URLs and websites
- Browser’s home page
- Search queries
- Search queries on the visited web pages
- Type of used browser
- Operating system type
- Internet protocol (IP) address
- Geographic location
- The domain name of current Internet service provider (ISP)
So, the longer this PUA runs on your Mac, the more exposed you become to a range of issues. That is why its complete removal is absolutely recommended. Navigate to the removal guide in the next step for an easy-to-follow, step-by-step removal process of ExtraList.
