Facebook Accesses iPhone’s Camera While Scrolling through News Feed

The next bug report is related to Facebook and Apple. Apparently, Facebook has just said it will fix a bug that unintentionally accesses the camera of an iPhone while the user is scrolling through the app’s News Feed.

The issue was discovered by Joshua Maddux from web design firm 95Visual. The good news is that it only affects iOS devices.

Maddux used Twitter to first share his findings, where he posted a video that revealed how his phone camera, aiming forward, was running in the background while he was scrolling through Facebook.

Maddux though he had opened the camera by mistake, CNN said, but he saw the camera again on the left side when he closed a video on Facebook.

Security researcher Jerry Gamblin reproduced the bug and told CNN that there is no indication of the information being sent to Facebook.

Facebook has now confirmed the issue and is working on a fix.

“We have seen no evidence of photos or videos being uploaded due to this bug. We’re submitting the fix for this to Apple today,” Facebook stated.

Until the issue is fixed, the recommendation is that users revoke camera access for the Facebook app on iPhone.
