FBSYW Virus Ransomware – Detailed Overview

The propagation of the FBSYW virus is presumed to be realized with popular means of distribution. Most ransomware infections land on computers via spam emails, torrent files, fake software update notifications, and hacked websites. Since hackers can reach lots of people by obtaining their email addresses, they often choose this channel as a main for the spread of their malicious software.

Hence, FBSYW ransomware may land on a computer operating system a file that was attached to an email. The email text may state that file is an:

  • Order receipt.
  • Invoice.
  • Plane ticket.
  • Document from a bank.

Once the file that contains malicious commands to execute is started on a PC, infection with the FBSYW virus is inevitable. The main purpose of hackers who have developed and released this malicious software in the wild is revenue.

Their threat is programmed to interfere with essential system settings and then lock personal files with a strong cipher algorithm. As a result of encryption, files remain inaccessible and renamed with the .FBSYW extension.

In order to make its victims more prone to pay the demanded ransom, FBSYW ransomware scans drives for commonly used types of files. These files are known to store important information valued by victims. Once the attack is completed, all of the following may be encrypted by the threat:

  • Photos.
  • Songs.
  • Videos.
  • Archives.
  • Documents of all types.
  • Databases.
  • Backup files.

The extortion happens with the help of a ransom note which the ransomware drops on the infected system. The specially crafted ransom message could be found in the text file readme.txt.

Here is how it looks like when opened on a PC infected with the FBSYW ransomware:

readme.txt FBSYW virus conti ransomware note

If you end up encountering the FBSYW virus, then it is not advisable to pay the ransom. The main reason for that is you cannot trust or support the activity of those criminals and succumbing to their plan is generally not a good idea.
