The adware PlusMethod is part of a bigger PUP family for Mac called AdLoad. We have detected many of these apps that are spread accross the web trying to shilter into Mac machines. Some ofther apps of the same family are SelectorComponent, EdgeAdvanced and JumpSearch.

Applications of this type tend to infect macOS by the usage of shady techniques of distribution. Most of the times they are included to the installation setups of other freeware. The image below shows an app installer configured to run additional potentially undesired app:

PlusMethod – What Does It Do?

When PlusMethod lands on a Mac, it tries to obtain access to the installed web applications. By modifying different browser settings the program becomes able to conduct shady advertising campaigns designed to generate revenue for fraudsters. In order to trick you to visit sponsored content, this adware may display – pop-ups, banners, new browser tab redirects, promoted search results, etc.

Unsolicited data collection could be initiated too. Programs like PlusMethod adware are set to drop and run tracking technologies in order that fraudsters can launch targeted advertisements later. Small objects like cookies may be dropped on your Mac to obtain and provide data.
