Remove-Banhu-Ransomware-Virus-Phobos-sensorstechforum-guide

Banhu virus infects essential system settings with the purpose to corrupt valuable files. It is ransomware that lowers system security so that it can corrupt important files. By running malicious files on the system, it reaches a data encryption stage. During this stage, the Banhu virus changes files’ code which leads to restricted access to the information they store. All .banhu files remain inaccessible until a working decryption or recovery tool fixes them. Once Banhu ransomware finishes its attack over a computer operating system, it creates two files that contain its ransom message. A text file called info.txt and another one with the same name but a different format contain a message that tries to blackmail you into paying a hefty ransom fee to hackers. This option is highly inadvisable.

Keep up with our Banhu ransomware removal guide to strengthen PC security and potentially recover .banhu files.

What is Banhu Virus?

The Banhu computer virus infection completes a long sequence of malicious operations once started on a PC. Since it is designed to perform most of its malicious processes in the background of all other running apps, its nasty impact may remain unnoticed until the end of the attack. The purpose is to encrypt specific files without a victim being able to stop it on time.

For the data encryption phase, Banhu ransomware utilizes a cipher module that scans predefined system drives for target types of files. With the help of a strong cipher algorithm, the Banhu virus corrupts target files and leaves them out of order. If you are one of the victims of this nasty computer infection, you may not be able to access the data stored by:

  • Audio files
  • Video files
  • Document files
  • Image files
  • Backup files
  • Banking credentials, etc.

Following encryption, corrupted files could be recognized by a sequence of strange extensions the last of which is .banhu. The other two extensions appended to files’ original names are an ID number and an email address provided by hackers.

At last, Banhu ransomware drops a ransom note file to extort a hefty ransom fee for the decryption of .banhu files. The note could be found in files called info.hta and info.txt. Here is a copy of its content:

As regards the propagation of Banhu ransomware, which is, in fact, a strain of the infamous Phobos ransomware, it is most likely realized via malspam. Malspam is a technique preferred by hackers due to the fact that it enables them to deliver malicious software on computer operating systems on a large scale. Other channels that may be part of the distribution strategy for Banhu ransomware are malvertising, freeware installers, corrupted web pages, compromised software setups, fake software updates, malicious files shared on forums, and others.

Remove Banhu Ransomware and Try to Restore Files

What should you do when your PC and data have been hit by Banhu ransomware? Here we will present the secure way to deal with Banhu ransomware and similar infections. First, you have to ensure that no malicious files are still running on the infected operating system. For this purpose, you need to locate these malicious files and entries and remove them. This will prevent them from causing an impact on regular system performance.

Once you secure the system against nasty ransomware operations, you should back up encoded files to an external drive. Finally, you can proceed with the data recovery process. In the guide below we included alternative data recovery methods that may be efficient for some of your .banhu files. Bear in mind that these methods may be helpful to some degree. They do not guarantee the full recovery of all encoded files.

In the event that we spot a release of a free decryption tool for Banhu ransomware, we will include all needed details in this ransomware removal guide. Keep in touch.
