What Is OfferCore?
OfferCore, also known as PUP.Optional.OfferCore, is a detection of a software bundler that installs various adware and potentially unwanted apps (PUAs). The bundler could also be used to install legitimate Windows apps. However, multiple reports indicate that the installer is mostly deployed in unwanted installations.
The main goal of OfferCore is to monetize adware installations. Third-party developers and advertisers get paid for every successful installation and for any display ad. In other words, OfferCore is widely deployed in bundling various ad-supported, suspicious apps.
Users install these apps, which could be browser extensions and system utilities, without being aware of the added extras. Such unwanted downloads usually happen when you download software from freeware sites. However, as we already mentioned, even legitimate apps get bundled. So, the only way to avoid any unwanted installation, be it legitimate or suspicious, is to be extra vigilant during the installation process, and deselect anything additional offer.
Note. OfferCore can download various adware apps on your system, such as browser hijackers, browser redirects, browser extensions, and rogue system utilities. To avoid any further damage, we advise you to check your system by performing a full-system scan for malware and adware.

As a result of having OfferCore installed on your system, you can start experiencing intrusive pop-up ads, which are often entirely unrelated to your browsing. These ads could contain information about other questionable applications and detected system issues, or push notifications. Keep in mind that your searches could also be redirected to unwanted and suspicious pages.
Information that OfferCore may collect about your browsing includes the following:
- Visited URLs and websites
- Browser’s home page
- Search queries
- Search queries on the visited web pages
- Type of used browser
- Operating system type
- Internet protocol (IP) address
- Geographic location
- The domain name of current Internet service provider (ISP)
- Diagnostic information which describes how their Services are operating on the system
NOTE. To avoid the installation of unwanted programs, you should play close attention during the installation of freeware apps. Freeware you recently downloaded from software download pages could have been bundled with OfferCore. Third-party developers may support shady practices for monetization purposes, and may offer you to change your homepage or search provider. You can decline any of these additional offers only if you are careful enough to spot them during installation. In other words, paying attention to the installation setups of freeware could spare you from having to deal with various unwanted downloads.

Since the program is observed to install multiple PUAs at the same time, all suspicious, third-party applications will have to be removed. That is why it is recommended to start the removal process with an anti-malware scan. Then, experienced users may try and follow the instructions below the article.
