Browser Vulnerabilities Increase in Organization – a Real Threat to Companies Security

browser-vulneravilities-increaseThe growing number of browser vulnerabilities is what’s on IT security managers minds these days. With the increasing number of such vulnerabilities, 72% out of 685 IT managers state that this is what is threatening the security in their organization more than anything else. Organizations having more than 1000 end points should be extremely careful on the subject.

An organization security research made recently showed that tremendous 82% of the companies have had at least one browser attack during the past year alone. The average number of attacks companies have experienced during the past year was about three, resulting help desk issues and decreased employee productivity.

In addition, the research reveals a growing need for improvement on the traditional security programs. The majority of the IT managers, taking part in the survey, about 84% – said that the traditional antivirus software should become more effective facing the growing threats. The facts have caused the leaders of security budgets in 78% of the companies to embrace a new, layered budget with various end points to execute during 2015.

Ransomware

Managers, who have had experienced ransomware in their organizations, rated it as the most dangerous threat of this kind. Although it’s less spread out as an attack, it’s most hazardous and destructive. Ransomware is a threat that once entered the system restricts access to it demanding ransom payments from users so it can set it free.

Browser Hijackers

Another threat in the wild, affecting web browsers, is the widely spread browser hijacker. A browser hijacker is a browser add-on which once installed on a machine change the browsers settings, so it leads users to unwanted and potentially unsafe websites, while capturing sensitive data for personal and business gain. Examples for popular browsers hijackers lately are Vosteran.Com, Snap.Do, V9 Redirect, etc.

According to about 64% of the IT security teams, taking part in the survey, the biggest problem in their organizations is evaluating and removing vulnerabilities and dealing with attacks, followed by decreased employee productivity.

The growing browser vulnerabilities speak clearly for these attacks’ effectiveness. The strategy of the organizations must include more than one traditional antivirus protection as it probably won’t be enough. With the help of a multi-layered approach using contemporary endpoint security solution, companies may significantly increase their data protection. The approach will certainly have immediate effect on their Help Desks.
