Igvm Virus File Removal

What Is Igvm Virus

igvm virus fileIgvm is a ransomware infection, that belongs to the STOP/DJVU family of viruses. This virus’s main goal is to get victims to pay a hefty ransom fee to the cyber-criminals who are behind it. To do this, it uses an encryption, called AES that may ban you from opening your files and make them impossible to recover.

Igvm ransomware uses the .igvm file extension after it encrypts the files and leaves behind the _readme.txt ransom note that is placed so you can see it. The main idea of this ransomware is to get you to contact the criminals behind it using the ransom note instructions.

Igvm Virus – How Does It Work?

Just like any other cryptovirus, the Igvm ransomware enters your computer via two main methods – either via e-mail or if you have downloaded its virus file from some low-reputation site. In case you have downloaded it on your computer as some form of a program, then bear in mind that Igvm virus could appear as if it is a:

  • Software activation executables.
  • Key generators (keygens).
  • Cracks.
  • Patches.

Not only this, but this virus may also be sent to you via e-mail or some other form of nasty malware. If so, then you could encounter it as some sort of a seemingly important attachment, like:

  • Fake e-tickets.
  • Receipts.
  • Invoices.
  • Document that is important.

This method of replication may also be used by other ransomware varaints of this family, like Ekvf, Yrnb and Ytbn.

Furthermore, be advised that the Igvm virus may drop its files as soon as you download the infection file and run it. They are often named randomly and could be located in the following directories:

  • %LocalLow%
  • %AppData%
  • %Local%
  • %Temp%
  • %Roaming%

Among the dropped files is also the ransom note file that contains the message from the criminals. It aims to extort victims into contacting them via e-mail to negotiate the ransom for their files:

.igvm Files

The files encrypted by this nasty ransomware virus are often used file types and Igvm virus is smart enough to skip encrypting important Windows files. The files that it encrypts are targeted based on their own file extensions, such as:

  • Documents.
  • Image files.
  • Videos.
  • Archive files.
  • Databases
  • Backups.
  • Audio files.

After encryption, the files have the .igvm file extension and the virus generates a decryption key to be used in a so-called “decryptor”. The files assume the following appearance:

igvm files

The main idea here is that the Igvm virus gets you to pay ransom to get the files to work again. We strongly recommend you not to pay and keep reading to learn more ways on removing this malware and trying to get your files to work again.

Remove Igvm Virus and Try to Recover Data

Igvm virus can be removed by following the removal instructions we have made underneath. These steps are mainly created with the primary reason to get users to delete the virus files effectively. For the best removal, it is recommended that you download and run a scan of your computer using advanced anti-malware software. Such software is capable of scanning your computer and making sure that Igvm virus is fully removed from it.

If you do not want to pay for a decryptor, we suggest that you back up the encrypted files and save them. If your decryption keys are “offline keys” then Emsisoft researchers or other malware specialists may release a decryptor for your variant of STOP ransomware in a couple of weeks time. If not, then you are always welcome to try our alternative file recovery instructions posted beneath this article. They have been created with the main goal to help you recover as many files as possible, but they are not 100% guarantee to work on all your files.
