Kings Virus – How Did It Infect My PC?

Kings cryptovirus is most likely spreading its infection payload dropper via common methods. The malicious script for this ransomware may be shared on social media and file-sharing services, activated by freeware found on the Web and presented as an important file attached to a sort of suspicious email.

Email attachments and links presented in legitimate-like email messages could run the ransomware on computer systems the moment they are opened on a target machine.

If Kings Ransomware has infected your PC via an email attachment, the attachment might have been a document packed with malicious macros. Here is an example of how such an infected document works:

Kings Virus – What Does It Do?

A previous version of the Babuk ransomware, which was detected in the in wild in October 2021, used the .piton extension. All strains of this ransomware seriously infect computer systems before they run the built-in cypher module which utilizes a complex algorithm.

Kings ransomware could make entries in the Windows Registry to achieve persistence. It could also launch or repress processes in a Windows system. That is why its removal from the system is mandatory.

All encrypted files will receive the .kings extension. Audio, video, image files as well as documents, backups and banking data can be encrypted by this ransomware. Following data encryption, the virus shows ransomware instructions inside a ransom note called RestoreFiles.txt.

Here’s what the ransom note says:

Hello, friends!
Your system has been compromised by our team.We have blocked your files and also uploaded useful data from your computers(doc, docx, pdf, xls and other office extensions) to our servers.
You have 2 days to contact us to discuss the terms of payment for our services to restore your files. If you do not contact us or refuse to pay, we will place your stolen files in the public domain.
Do not change the file namesand extensions.Do not try to decrypt the files yourself, they are encrypted using a good encryption algorithm.
Main Mail:
decryptydata@gmx.de
Backup mail(if we don’t reply 24 hours):
decryptydata2@gmx.net
At the first contact, you can write to both emails for reliability.

This cryptovirus could be set to erase all the Shadow Volume Copies from the Windows operating system with the help of the command:

→vssadmin.exe delete shadows /all /Quiet

N.B. In general, contacting the ransomware operators or paying the demanded ransom is not recommended. Your payment can fuel further malicious campaigns that will harass more and more computer users. In addition, there is no guarantee you will actually receive the promised decryption tool. So, what would be best is to back up your encrypted data and wait for an official decrypter to be released by security researchers. It is also important to remove the ransomware from your system so that it doesn’t spread any further or reinfect your machine.

If your computer device is infected by the Kings cryptovirus, continue reading for removal instructions.
