SARBLOH Virus – Spreading, Infection and Data Encryption

Executable files with various names may be activating SARBLOH ransomware infection on PCs. Analysis of one of these .exe files reveals that the malicious software is capable of implementing lots of malicious operations until it finishes the attack.

As regards the spread of malicious executable files, it tends to happen via bogus methods. The primary utilized by hackers is reported to be the malspam or spam emails that deliver malicious code.

Malspam is perfect for massive attacks that hit lots of target devices. Hackers are well-known for discovering shady web sources that offer illegally obtained email addresses. Extensive email lists enable them to send misleading messages directly to peoples’ inboxes. Ransomware-related email messages may be hard to recognize. They may also present forcing messages. Typically, they try to provoke people’s emotions as such an effect provides for the unnoticed installation of ransomware.

When SARBLOH ransomware is started on a computer system, it initiates a complex attack that disrupts the overall security. After several attack phases, the virus reaches the main one – the data encryption.

For this phase, the SARBLOH virus executes a built-in cipher module that is designed to corrupt target files with the help of a sophisticated cipher algorithm. Once transformed by the SARBLOH virus, files are no longer accessible. A vivid trait of all files corrupted by this malware is the extension .sarbloh which is appended to their original names.

Unfortunately, all commonly used types of files could be encoded by this ransomware:

  • Audio files.
  • Video files.
  • Document files.
  • Image files.
  • Backup files.
  • Banking credentials, etc.

At last, the SARBLOH ransomware will drop a ransom note to inform victims about hackers’ demands. Unlike most data lockers (STEEL, MrJeck, Ribd) SARBLOH does not try to blackmail victims to pay a ransom fee for the decryption of .sarbloh files. Instead, it insists on the following:

YOUR FILES ARE GONE!!!
THEY WILL NOT BE RECOVERABLE UNTIL THE DEMANDS OF THE FARMERS HAVE BEEN MET

WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?
Using military grade EnCryPtiOn all the files on your system have been made useless.

India, Sikhs have long been the face against the oppression placed upon them.
Each time we have resisted.
Today you come for the very throats of Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim farmers by trying to take their livelihood.
You will not succeed in your sinister ways.
The two-sided sword of the Khalsa is at any moments notice. Tyaar bar tyaar.
Wherever our blood is spilled, the tree of Sikhi uproots from there.
If your intentions for the farmer’s are pure and
you wish to help them, this is not the way.
Halemi Raj, Sikh Raj, was not this way.

If the laws are not repealed. Your fate is no
different to what the Khalsa did to Sirhind.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Khalsa Cyber Fauj

The ransom message could be found in the README_SARBLOH.txt file that is dropped on the infected system.
