Rilide Malware Removal

What Is Rilide?

Rilide is a new malicious browser extension designed to steal cryptocurrencies.

Identified by SpiderLabs researchers, the malware is disguised as a legitimate Google Drive extension. It has the capacity to enable threat actors to conduct a variety of malicious activities, such as keeping a record of browsing history, taking screenshots and injecting malicious scripts to obtain funds from different cryptocurrency exchanges.

Rilide malware is not the first malware to be found using malicious browser extensions. However, it has a distinctive and uncommon ability to use fraudulent dialogs to deceive users and make them disclose their two-factor authentication (2FA), which is then used to withdraw digital currencies in the background. Investigations into Rilide’s roots found that similar browser extensions were being advertised for sale, as well as some of its source code having been recently leaked on an underground forum due to an argument over payment.

How Is Rilide Malware Distributed?

The malicious Microsoft Publisher file, part of Ekipa RAT, a Remote Access Trojan (RAT), was utilized to distribute the Rilide malware. This RAT is specifically designed for targeted attacks and is often sold on underground forums.

Another method of distributing the Rilide malware is through Aurora. This malicious software is designed to extract data from web browsers, cryptocurrency wallets, and local systems. It was recently discovered that the threat actors behind Aurora were misusing the Google Ads platform to spread the Rilide malware. According to a Cyble report, the malware was distributed by campaigns that mimicked legitimate Team Viewer installers. Researchers 1ZRR4H and malwrhunterteam also reported that the malware was being spread via a campaign that pretended to be an NVIDIA Driver installer.

What Does Rilide Do?

Rilide utilizes a Rust loader to install its malicious extension when it detects a Chromium-based browser. It pretends to be a legitimate Google Drive Extension, yet it takes advantage of multiple built-in chrome functionalities. The loader modifies LNK shortcut files for targeted browsers so that they launch with the parameter –load-extension, which leads to the installation of the malicious Rilide extension.

When a withdrawal request is made on Rilide’s crypto exchange scripts, the user is presented with a forged device authentication dialog in order to obtain two-factor authentication. The withdrawal request email is then replaced with a device authorization request, attempting to deceive the user into providing the authorization code. It is also noteworthy that email confirmations are automatically substituted if the user accesses their mailbox using the same web browser.

Is the Rilide Malware Dangerous?

Shortly said, yes. This malware is extremely dangerous because it exposes cryptocurrency finds at risk, and could compromise the targeted device in various ways, including the installation of other, additional malware samples. Rilide gives threat actors the capacity to engage in various harmful actions, such as tracking web browsing, taking screenshots, and infusing malicious code to take money from cryptocurrency exchanges.

2.For Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

For Older Windows Operating Systems

In older Windows OS's the conventional approach should be the effective one:

1: Click on the Start Menu icon (usually on your bottom-left) and then choose the Search preference.

Remove Virus Trojan

2: After the search window appears, choose More Advanced Options from the search assistant box. Another way is by clicking on All Files and Folders.
