Why Does the Zoom iPhone Virus Exist?

The Zoom iPhone Virus is a type of malware created to infect iPhones with harmful code. It typically manifests as pop-up ads and fake notifications while actively gathering personal data from the compromised device.

The Role and Impact of the Zoom iOS Virus

Zoom is an iOS virus that can quietly install harmful software on a user’s device without their awareness. This harmful software can extract sensitive data, send spam messages, and disrupt the normal functioning of the infected device. Moreover, it can act as a conduit to spread other types of malicious programs, thus creating a cycle of infection.

One user had the following to comment on the Zoom virus on Apple Community Forums:

Potential malware on iPhone

Hi, I am possibly a victim of a scam where my personal data and money was targeted. The key risk-related behaviour is that I took part in a Zoom meeting from my iPhone with the scammers.

Based on the instructions I later received from my bank, the scammers use Zoom meetings to nest malware on the phone and, by that, they can potentially get access to my banking data (by mobile banking app). I was advised to restore my iPhone to factory settings.

Now, just before restoring, I did the iPhone backup on my Mac. My question is if I can feel safe now or there’s still risk that the potential malware is in the backup data on Mac?

BTW. I also have a backup on iCloud, but I decided to go with Mac first. I don’t fully understand the difference.
