What is BuyTheApp?
BuyTheApp is a program that has a purpose of presenting various advertisements to users. This is why it falls under the category of adware. The ads will usually display various discounts and promotions. Now, you may think this is useful. However, there are a number of security issues related to BuyTheApp. Adware programs are typically considered to be potentially unwanted applications. This is due to the fact that it is very likely that the ads they display are misleading. Some may even redirect users to malicious websites. This is why it is recommended that you delete it at once.
Where Does BuyTheApp Come from?
Chances are that you did not install BuyTheApp on your computer willingly. Recall any freeware that you have installed recently, because it has probably been attached to that. You missed it because you did not pay much attention to the install wizard. If you only click the Next button when installing programs, it is very likely that you will inadvertently install additional programs, as well. Unwanted software such as BuyTheApp takes advantage of this to enter PCs and start generating advertisements.
What Doe BuyTheApp Do?
The presence of BuyTheApp on your computer will be pretty obvious. The program will immediately attach an extension to your browser regardless if you are using Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Then it will start producing pop-up and banner advertisements while you are browsing the web. They will be labeled as “Ads by BuyTheApp,” so it will be very hard not to spot them. The ads will present popular items such as smartphones, tablet PCs, laptops, etc. Some ads will even be suitable to your interests as the program is able to collect data on your browsing to present you with relevant advertisements. Keep in mind that there is nothing illegal about this activity.
Where Is the Danger?
The problem with BuyTheApp is not only that it takes advantage of inattentive users. The services of the program can be employed by malicious parties. They can use it to present misleading advertisements that will redirect users to malicious websites upon clicking on them. Then their systems will become a target for malware attacks. What is more, BuyTheApp can share the information that it has collected on your browsing with any third parties. This means that the attackers can also make their advertisements fit the preferences of users just to lure them on their harmful websites. If you do not wish to risk your PC’s security, getting rid of BuyTheApp is the way to go.
