FileSendSuite is a suspicious toolbar that comes in the form of a browser extension and is developed by Mindspark Inc. that are well known for collecting various types of information from the user. FileSendSuite is considered by some to be a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that installs tracking cookies on user PCs and aggregates different types of information from the user. Such toolbars may come bundled with downloaded third-party software as a ‘free extra’, so users should be careful when they install freeware for optional extras.
FileSendSuite – How Does It Work?
The toolbar claims to provide file sharing services, such as URL sharing, Email file sharing. It also claims to support Video file sharing, Image file sharing and Document sharing as bonuses. We have decided to install it to find out what exactly the program does for the user.
As visible, the company does not restrict itself when it comes to distributing and collecting personal information, which is considered by many to be a profitable business. They state that they may share such information in the event of an asset sale. Also, when we prompted to install the toolbar on Google Chrome, the extension required some suspicious permissions to be installed, shown below.
When we installed the extension, the first detail that we noticed was that it changed our ‘Home Page’ and our ‘New Tab’ page to int.search.myway.com which displays Google results. We have also noticed that this search engine installed several types of tracking cookies on our computer, according to Mindspark’s policy. Also, we saw some other interesting eyebrow-raising details, such as the fact that the home search engine displayed ad-supported results on top of the Google search results.
However, the most distinct detail hinting us that this software does not provide an actual service were the service apps in the toolbar itself. These buttons weren’t standalone applications for file sharing. Instead they were redirects to third-party services.
So, bottom line is that this toolbar hijacks your browser and installs cookies to gather your personal and non-personal information. It may or may not share it with third parties and does not provide any actual service, besides the file converting app on it.
