Nyton Ransomware Virus In Detail

The Nyton ransomware virus is mainly used for extortion purposes by malicious actors. It encodes personal data with the help of a sophisticated cipher algorithm to make it completely inaccessible. Files corrupted by Nyton Virus receive the extension .nyton

According to security researchers reports, the Nyton Virus is lurking across the web in active attack campaigns. The attacks can be set against online users worldwide. As of the spread techniques used for the delivery of Nyton malicious samples, they are likely to be malspam, corrupted web pages, software installers, P2P networks and others.

Hackers often prefer to spread their malicious code via heaps of spam e-mails. They usually embed malicious code in commonly used file types, usually documents and archives. Afterward, they attach modified files to emails accompanied by a message and a spoofed email address. So, when a user receives such an email it seems to be sent by a representative of legitimate service, business or institution.

Files which are designed to trigger the Nyton Virus on the operating system (Windows, Linux) may be presented as:

  • Invoice coming from reputable sites, like PayPal, eBay, etc
  • Document that appear to be sent from your bank
  • An online order confirmation note
  • Receipt for a purchase
  • Tax bill

When executed on a target machine the Nyton Virus triggers a long sequence of malicious operations that lead to the corruption of essential system components. By affecting system registries, ending essential processes and activating malicious files, the ransomware becomes able to reach the target types of personal files and encrypt them with the help of the sophisticated cipher algorithm AES. To make victims more prone to pay a ransom fee, Nyton Virus corrupts files that are likely to store valuable personal information like:

  • Audio files
  • Video files
  • Document files
  • Image files
  • Backup files
  • Banking credentials, etc

Every encrypted files can be recognized by the extension .nyton that is appended to its name.

Next, the ransomware drops a ransom message file – !NYTON_HELP.TXT in an attempt to blackmail you into contacting hackers for more details about a ransom payment process. Here is a copy of the ransom message of Nyton cryptovirus:
