What is Zipe Virus

Zipe Virus is made to cripple computers as reported by people with infected computers. Victims cannot access almost all of their files and data. Originating from the STOP ransomware family, the virus is seen to corrupt computer systems by locking their files. As Zipe Ransomware belongs to the encrypting type of threats known as cryptoviruses, your files will have a specific lock on them. File restoration is hard, but not impossible. However, a long time may pass for newer variants of this virus to get decrypted.

Zipe Ransomware

Zipe virus uses military-level encryption. As such, the algorithm locking files might take forever to decrypt. Obvious symptoms for a PC that has the virus is that it has slow-downs, shows a ransom message after encryption process is done. Zipe virus is known as .Zipe file virus as that is what victims call it. It is the latest part of the STOP ransomware family tree. Encrypted files get the .Zipe extension at the end of their names, as a secondary one, after the original. The Zipe variant leaves a ransom note with instructions about potentially recovering their data while paying the hackers.

.zipe File Extension

STOP ransomware authors demand a large sum of money in exchange for decryption. .Zipe virus file threat could make entries in the Windows Registry to stick to a machine, and might modify Windows processes. Each locked file gets the same .zipe extension in addition to its name. Documents, bank details, backups, audio and video files all receive the extension making the operating system confused about its files.

Zipe Ransomware – In-Depth Information

Zipe Files Virus could propagate with the help of various methods. The payload file is usually sent to a victim’s PC through torrenting and file-downloading platforms. Free programs advertised online can have the malicious script for STOP ransomware.

As the new STOP ransomware variant, Zipe virus is dangerous. Infecting system files is not the biggest havoc that the ransomware wreaks. It will also do everything possible to stay on the system even after a reinstallation of the system.

.Zipe files virus will encrypt your files and display an instructions message inside folders with locked data. The cybercriminals want you to pay a ransom fee for the alleged restoration of your files as stated in the instructions note. Latest STOP ransomware variants are hardly decrypted as most of them use an ONLINE key for encryption. This means that the key is known only by the cybercriminals, so a decryptor cannot function without it. Zipe files ransomware could create valid entries in the Windows Registry and control Windows processes depending on how it is programmed.

When encryption is finished, the .Zipe files virus will store a ransom note on your computer. You can see the contents of this _readme.txt file, below:

Step 2: Uninstall Zipe and related software from Windows

Here is a method in few easy steps that should be able to uninstall most programs. No matter if you are using Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista or XP, those steps will get the job done. Dragging the program or its folder to the recycle bin can be a very bad decision. If you do that, bits and pieces of the program are left behind, and that can lead to unstable work of your PC, errors with the file type associations and other unpleasant activities. The proper way to get a program off your computer is to Uninstall it. To do that:

1. Hold the Windows Logo Button and "R" on your keyboard. A Pop-up window will appear.

2. In the field type in "appwiz.cpl" and press ENTER.

3. This will open a window with all the programs installed on the PC. Select the program that you want to remove, and press "Uninstall"
Follow the instructions above and you will successfully uninstall most programs.

Step 3: Clean any registries, created by Zipe on your computer.

The usually targeted registries of Windows machines are the following:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

You can access them by opening the Windows registry editor and deleting any values, created by Zipe there. This can happen by following the steps underneath:

1. Open the Run Window again, type "regedit" and click OK.

2. When you open it, you can freely navigate to the Run and RunOnce keys, whose locations are shown above.

3. You can remove the value of the virus by right-clicking on it and removing it.
Tip: To find a virus-created value, you can right-click on it and click "Modify" to see which file it is set to run. If this is the virus file location, remove the value.

IMPORTANT!
Before starting "Step 4", please boot back into Normal mode, in case you are currently in Safe Mode.
This will enable you to install and use SpyHunter 5 successfully.
